OUR WORK

The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) is the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) for Zimbabwe. The Commission is created by Chapter 12 of the Constitution as one of the Independent Commissions supporting democracy in Zimbabwe. Its mandate is to promote, protect and enforce human rights and administrative justice. It also protects people from abuse of power and maladministration by State institutions and State officials. This work is discharged in four (4) departments as follows:

STEPS THE COMMISSION TAKES IF YOUR RIGHTS ARE VIOLATED

Step 1.

When handling a complaint, the Commission may conduct an investigation that includes taking all the details and interviewing all relevant sources including witnesses.
Step 2.

The Commission recommends suitable action / redress to the complaint and any other appropriate person / official.
Step 3.

The Commission may recommend prosecution of human rights violators.
Step 4.

The Commission may recommend payment of compensation to the individual or their family if necessary.
